Practical guide
SSD health is about wear, spare area, errors and heat.
SSDs fail differently from HDDs. There are no heads or platters, but NAND wear, controller heat, firmware issues and media errors still matter.
Read wear indicators carefully
Different vendors expose wear in different ways. Focus on the interpretation and trend rather than comparing raw values across unrelated SSD models.
Watch spare blocks and media errors
A drive can tolerate some internal block replacement, but shrinking spare area and increasing media errors reduce confidence.
Temperature can throttle or damage reliability
NVMe drives in tight spaces can run hot under sustained writes. A temperature graph helps show whether cooling is adequate for real workloads.
Backups still matter
SSDs can fail suddenly. Health monitoring improves awareness, but it does not replace a verified copy of the data.
